WinBox for Windows is free software that is widely used for internet connectivity settings. Indeed, this application is not used by people in general. WinBox only applies to people in charge of managing internet networks in a company. Or there are also IT kids using this application to study.
So, those of you who are already in this article, of course, need the WinBox installation file for Windows. But first, let’s take a look at the functions and features of this software.
What is WinBox
WinBox is a free utility software developed by MikroTik. The point is to use this application to configure MikroTik RouterOS.
MikroTik itself is a company engaged in providing software and hardware solutions. Aim for worldwide internet connectivity settings. So they made Mikrotik hardware and made WinBox software to operate it.
In essence, WinBox was introduced by MikroTik to enable RouterOS administration via an efficient and intuitive GUI. RouterOS itself is the operating system from RouterBOARD.
WinBox has a free license, we are free to download and use this application. Apart from that, the interface it has is very simple. For those of you who are beginners, you can quickly understand in terms of appearance. In terms of features, you can see below:
1. Safe Mode
This is a very important and main feature, to maintain a more secure and local proxy configuration. This works when we make settings on the proxy and make mistakes. Then it will not cause damage to the network.
With the network tuner feature, you can restore the router configuration settings that were run to their initial state or before Safe Mode was activated. Not that we don’t need to be careful, but what if there is a failure then this feature will help.
2. Backup and Restore
We all know Backup and Restore, WinBox also has this feature. It’s normal for those who have done the settings on the proxy via WinBox perfectly. They will back up these settings, aiming to be restored if the configured proxy is damaged.
There are three options when you are going to save files from backup results, the internal storage on the router, cloud storage, or the computer’s local hard disk.
The backup feature can be accessed via the File menu, to maintain data security. We strongly recommend that the backup file is given a password and encryption. Maintaining is better than repairing.
3. Keep Password
Generally, the save password feature or keep password will be active by default in the WinBox MikroTik configuration. This feature field will be checked to save passwords to the list. These passwords are stored in a file named settings.cfg.viw or in WinBox’s AppData/Roaming directory.
For those of you who have forgotten the MikroTik Router password, please open the Tools menu > Export Address > select a folder to save the export file > Save > Open the file with Notepad > After that WinBox login data will appear in a certain text format.
4. Export and Import
As the name suggests, this feature allows us to retrieve the results of the settings from proxy A to proxy B. This will make it easier for you when you have a new router and don’t want to configure it from scratch again. Through the Export command, you can edit the export results and adapt them to the new router, then transfer them with the Import command.
The dashboard feature will make it easy for users to monitor various things on the router. Some of the information that can be displayed on the dashboard feature includes Time (time on the router), Date (date on the router), CPU Usage (router CPU usage information), Memory (consumption or free RAM on the router), and Uptime Router (duration or the time the router is running).
For those who want to set up MikroTik using the WinBox application, we recommend using the latest version. Because with every update, there will be improvements and additions that are very profitable for you.
